Hello, To specifically answer your question the lowest taxes I have found in NC near Charlotte is Union County with the tax rate being .62 per 100. It is the lowest area with the best schools. You can find better schools in the slightly higher taxed areas of Union County. If schools are important, they are rated better in southern union county which has slightly higher tax rates. The best schools seem to be Weddington, Elem., Middle & High as well as Sandy Ridge Elem. and possibly the new, non-ranked Marvin Middle & High which just opened this Fall. Schools are also very good in some of the south mecklenburg county area. Taxes may be going up soon, however, as they often do, but it will still take awhile until this area (Union County) catches up with the rest. There are good schools in the Denver & Lake Norman area and I believe, the best SC schools are in the Fort Mill & Clover Districts but it is hard to compare from SC to NC because they rank differently.
We currenly live in Indian Trail and after almost 10 months of research are considering moving into the Weddington or Marvin schools for our youngsters so we will not feel the need to place them in private schools! Originally from DE and VA.
