I am planning on moving from Whittier, Ca to Tennessee. How can I go about qualifying for a mortgage?

Asked by Nicole, Whittier, CA Tue Jan 6, 2009

My husband and I have good credit and a long standing work history here in Ca. We do not have employment lined up, as of yet, in Tennessee. We have 10% to put down on a house and have approximately 6 months reserves for the mortgage. What are our options, as we have found it difficult to qualify without current employment in Tennessee?

You don't have to have current employment but you will have to have an employment letter at least. If either of you receives a job offer then the underwriter can use that to approve your loan. If you could afford both payments then you could try and buy the house as a second home but I am assuming that you are needing to unload your home first in order to buy the one in Tennessee.

If you have questions on the qualification process, please feel free to contact me.
