I am having a hard time obtaining a loan for a home for my family and I, our credits not the best. Help!

Asked by Tim, Haslett, MI Wed Aug 13, 2008

We have went through a couple people who promised results never to return our calls again. Now we are looking into Land Contract purchase but haven't had much luck with help there either. I have a steady job and have rented for years paying 900.00 a month. Would really love to have a home of our own. We are cleaning up our credit the best and as fast as we know how .

I'm glad to hear you are trying to clean up your credit scores because right now..they are very important.
Since the mortgage crisis, banks are careful about who they are approving for loans. Improving your credit will not only help you in home owner ship, but in other areas where credit is important too.

Hi! Time, I would be happy to provide you a few names of mortgage originators who would work with you on coaching you through the process. I have also added a link to ideas for first time home buyers below. The new tax benefits are also worth checking into. Contact me by email if you have any questions. Mike

I have helped many people in your situation own their home through a rent-to-own system. We utilize a credit cleaning company to build credit and set aside a portion of each rent payment for down payment. I would suggest looking for lease option or rent to own properties in your area. They are becoming more popular because their are countless people in your situation.
Otherwise I would suggest finding a credit cleaning company, saving for a down payment, and getting a copy of your credit report if you don't know the score. You should start with the credit report. You can get a free one at http://www.freeannualcreditreport.com
You might want to check RateSpeed as well. They offer transparent mortgages so you don't get taken by a crooked mortgage broker. You will see the wholesale rate you qualify for without entering any personal information (no social security number).
