I am considering buying a home in the lower merion township. The termite inspection show that there's mud holes. Is this a NO to this property?

Is it a common problem in houses in the lower merion township in PA. I was told by my agent that a lot of houses here had termite problems at some point. Is this true?

Absolutly true, these pests are indigenious to our area and can be easily treated, as long as the damage has not impacted the house structurally. A good home inspector can determine the damage. These are not the same kind of termites that you have in Florida.

Janae outlines a good plan of action using professional help. In adddition, you can take some actions yourself in making your home less attractive to termite infestation. While this won't prevent termites, these suggestions will reduce some of the conditions that make it easier for termites to get into your home.

Remove all wood debris from around your house. This includes wood from boards along foundations, tree stumps as well as firewood especially any that is stacked anywhere near your home.

Termites require moisture to survive, so grade the soil around your foundation so it carries water away from the house.

Make sure your gutters and downspouts are clean and working properly.

Hope you find this helpful.

Yes, eventually most homes are vulnerable. Check to see if the home was previously treated. Homes that have active infestation need to be treated at once. Homes that have been treated need to be examined by a qualified professional to determine the extent of the damage. Once damage is repaired and you are satisfied that the home is structurally sound, you should maintain a contract with a pest control company. They will provide a warranty and inspect regularly.
