In most normal sales, an attorney is not required if you are using a real estate agent - the agent should be able to help you through the process of closing escrow and finalizing the purhcase of the home. If there is some issue with the escrow or disagreement between the buyer and seller that isn't being resolved, an attorney might be a good idea.

Hope this is helpful!
