I am about to get pre-approval for a FHA mortgage. Will it hurt me if I pull my credit report on my own now?

Good afternoon kandyo1,

While you can access a free credit report once a year at annualcreditreport.com (the ONLY website you should use for consumer access to credit reports), a Mortgage Banker will still need to run her own credit report for prequalification purposes. So to specifically answer your question, pulling your credit report shouldn't hurt you, but it won't help, either, except for the point of reference that you can review your credit history on your own in case there are errors on your report(s).

It's ok to pull your credit report for your own records, but a lender still has to pull the report. Who are you using for the pre-approval? Also, are you aware of the various grants that are available for first time buyers? If you have any questions please call me direct at 444-7172 or visit my website at http://www.johngatas.com.

The best advice is to talk to a bank about your options, then they will pull your score for you. Though, you could go to freecreditreport.com to pull your own, but a lender would be able to tell you more about what your score would mean in terms of lending options. If you have other concerns, or need a mortgage person's contact information, please contact me at c21bond@gmail.com or 315-243-7504.
