The actual ordinance regarding dog within he La Quinta city limits reads:

The City of La Quinta permits no more than four dogs four months of age or older at any single premises. Dogs must have a City of La Quinta Animal License and be on leash when in public, unless you are in an area where dogs are legally permitted off-leash. Local dog parks are great off-leash exercise options for your dogs.

Different gated communities have different restrictions on the number of pets that are allowed. What community are you looking at?

It depends on the community. Check out my webpage, in the footer you will find that all of the communities are listed for La Quinta. You can scroll through them and sometimes the information is posted in the detail of the listing. If not, call me on the homes you are interested in and I will find out for you.

We think you should engage a local Realtor to answer these questions. Asking questions on this 3rd party real estate website is like spinning your wheels. Try here http://www.trulia.com/voices/directory/La_Quinta-broker--20885

Each development may be different and will reflect their CC&Rs. The City may also have their own restrictions as to how many dog one can have in a gated community - some time the size and weight must be taken into consideration. The exception to this is a nursing mother dog but there is a time limit on this. Be sure to read your CC&Rs if this is an important element for you in purchasing a home.

It varies from development to development but usually there is a limit of 2. Sometimes there are weight restrictions. It is possible that some may prohibit certain breeds as well. Official disclosures is given during escrow but it is sometimes possible to get an officials version of the rules and regs ahead of time.
