You can't really ask for a better location than anywhere by the ocean, and Playa del Rey is no exception. I work out of Playa Del Rey and can tell you that if there was one thing that might concern you, it would be living in a resort town while having to get up to go to work every day. The prices can be quite high though, so you might want to consider moving slightly inland about one mile to Playa Vista, which is a master planned community. El Segundo is a lovely, quite town but you will have to deal with not only the air traffic, but also the fact that one of the largest water purification plants for the city of LA is directly adjacent. Mar Vista is about another mile inland from Playa Vista and homes range from the high 700's ;condos from 450,000 up.

Fred is correct.. Playa del Rey is lovely but there is some airport noise you may have to deal with... the good news is that there are a number of condos that offer slightly lower prices then single family homes. Depending on your price range and where you will be working it is certainly a nice area.. but you might also consider El Segundo which is a little south or Mar Vista which is a bit east.. Any community along the coast will be very expensive. Crime rates in these places is usually low. As to entertainment there is a lot within a short drive.. The Marina has some great restaurants and night spots as does Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo. You are also quite close to Venice and Santa Monica. The cost of living.. other then housing which is pricey.. ( gas, groceries, utilities)is very similar through LA County.

I lived for MANY years in the Playa Del Rey area while attending graduate school at Loyola Marymount Univ (up the hill from there). The area in general is quite safe, is close to some good entertainment options in Manhatten Beach/Marina Del Rey/Santa Monica, but is quite expensive (as most coastal areas in LA are). If you're buying the entry level is about $750K and goes up from there. A rental (2 bedroom for example) is going to range about $1,800-2,400. Hope this helps!

PDR is a great area. It has nite-life & proximity to the beach. It's close to LAX and gets great ocean breezes in the summer. If you have kids, then look elsewhere, like El Segundo with it's own school district. If single, it's a fun place to hang, especially the Prince of Whales & Mo's for football/drinks & the Playa Vista concert park is not too far for summer concerts. Also you're halfway between Manhattan Beach & Santa Monica for restaurants/fun.
Hope that helps.
