If you just want to see if there is any lien on the property, check for a free report. If you want more information, you have to pay a small fee to get.

Ownership Report is $30, Title Search is $50, and Property Tax Report (free from the county) is $3

There are websites available, such as or, that will allow you to look up most property information.

unfortunately, the tax.ocgov site does not provide a search with available property owner info...on the tax bill, they reference a new govt code that protects the name of the owner. am i looking/using the site correctly OR any other methods you can think of?

Property ownership is public record. You can go to the County and look this up. Or, on the other hand, you can work with a really great REALTOR who has access to this through either their relationship with a Title Company or through their access to tax records. Dare to Dream.

The tax assessor is the best free way to obtain ownership information. is a pay website that will do the research for you.

Just to add a couple options.

My "spyware and virus protection" software prohibited me from going to this website, saying it is a dangerous website.

Hi John,

Shel-lee advised the correct answer. I just want to add that due to the technology advancement, all of the Title Records can be viewed online via Realors.

Please kindly let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

For California real estate inquiries, I generally use Parcel Viewer.

Visit the website linked below and sign up for a day use plan for the county you are interested in. Monthly is the better deal if you think you'll be using it multiple times. You can then search the address you're looking for and see owner names, along with mailing addresses, APN numbers, etc.

You can use the county recorder's office and or website with a small subscription. You can also use an online title search company for immediate results at a nominal fee. We have used US TITLE RECORDS and have been very satisfied and have found them very helpful. Check out for more information.

Hello John, you can get all the information from teh website. It is available there and there is no restriction in accessing the information as it is free to be used by the general public. Alternatively, you can visit the Orange County Tax Collector office and collect information. However, it is quite a lengthy process.

Hi Michael,

This home recently closed escrow on Oct 29th. I would like to find out who purchased the property and the final sale price. Thanks.
