Ben, this is a VERY rough calculation, but Howard County charges about $1.30 for every $100 of assessed value. In the case of a new home, that would be your purchase price, since that establishes value. So, the taxes on a $400,000 property would be about $5,200.

I assume you are speaking of a to be built home. You won't know exactly but the builder should be able to give you a very good estimate.

Check with the county assessor or appraiser, depending on what state you are in. You often can find this information online or a real estate agent can get it for you.
