How do I find the average property tax for a neighborhood?

Trying to decide between a few different small cities, Berkely, Royal Oak, Troy and Clawson~

I agree, don't know of such a site. However, by using these two websites you may be able to get a rough idea.

http://www.oakgov.com/equal/ to get the 2009 tax rates

and Trulia Stats and Trends to get the average value of homes sold

You may also be able to use the State of Michigan Treasury website http://www.michigan.gov/taxes/0,1607,7-238-43535_43540---,00.html

Hi Amy,

I don't know of a place that shows you average property taxes. I have a link on my site that shows millage rates for those communities. That is the rate of taxation that is used along with the estimated value of the home to determine taxes. That will give you a guide as to which community has the lowest tax rates. Remember though, that property values will vary in these communities too.
