The National Association of Realtors has a designatiion, ABR--Accredited Buyers Representative. That's another place to look for someone in your area, that has not been mentioned, yet.
If I were a buyer looking for representation, I would:
1st ask a friend/family member for a referral
2nd check out websites like Trulia--the link Mark gave is great, but it's only the start. Don't necessarily just look at an agent's numbers, look at their profile and then read their answers. See who you can best relate to.
3rd Meet agents at open houses and/or check print advertising. Agents love to toot their own horns, so you will get an idea of who is doing what business; however, being a good listing agent doesn't necessarily make one a good buyers' agent.
By the way, if you want to search for homes for sale and find out what the market in Brick is like, you can go to my website and order a market snapshot. It will show you closed sales as well as active listings so that you know not only what is for sale, but what things are selling for. Get your education before you speak with an agent and you will know who really knows the market!
