Janine,
Carolyn is right in Oklahoma it is a question of when you will get termites. Majority of the time you can get rid of termites completely. I would suggest contacting an expert in terminate inspections. I always suggest to my clients as well to get at least 2 if not 3 quotes on any work or pest prevention being done on their home. Termites are a problem that can come back after time. I would speak with the expert on setting a prevention plan for the future as well.

If I were you I would make sure to have someone come look at the house as soon as possible. You can go from there to see what your options are for getting rid of them. There is most likely still a chance that you can get them exterminated and take care of any repairs needed as well. http://www.bucksmontgomerypestinspection.com/

As far as I know, termites can be dealt with. The thing is that you have to have a prevention plan to make sure that they don't come back. Once they have been in a place, it's easy for another group to move in. Once they are removed, getting an inspection and preventive treatment every couple of years should help a lot. http://www.blackandwhitepestcontrol.com.au/general-pest-control

Getting rid of termites can be difficult, but done as far as I know. The key to making sure they don't come back is to make sure you keep up with things like inspections. If you can nip the problem in the bud, it will be more effective. Regular inspections are a key to keeping things in check.

I agree, getting rid of termites can be really difficult, but it is definitely possible. You should probably call a professional to come over and assess the situation of your home. They'll be able to let you know exactly what you have to do to eradicate the problem. Termites can really destroy the value of a home if you aren't careful. http://www.propest.com.au/index.php/27-home/welcome/22-termit-pest-control

What did you end up doing, did your termite inspector inform you of the pros and cons?

A timeless question.
"..and can they ever be rid of them?"

Continued infestation is typically caused by environment conducive to termites which the homeowner must eliminate such as:

Overhanging trees that drop termites onto the house
Firewood adjacent to the house
Raised planters of wood construction close to the house.

Water sources....now this is the issue that COMPELS the home owner to subscribe to a treatment plan.
The water expelled by HVAC systems are the "Welcome' mat that is hard to eliminate without creating other real problems.

Remove these inherent issues and the termites will not be able to establish squatter status in your home. Buying a annual treatment plan, from a reputable company, is money well spent.

Termites, sand, UV rays, rain, wind, ants, are all part of the environment. With a little preventive measures, they are resolved or acclimated to. Every place has its stuff.

Discuss this with your termite inspector. The Termites can be eliminated, without a doubt. How bad the damage is is up to your home inspector and termite inspector to determine.

Verify everything with your inspectors and Realtor Member.

In Oklahoma, it is not a question of whether your house will have termites, but when. Termites live in the soil. I always think it is good news if the house has been treated recently. Termite treatments are usually good for several years. It is a good idea to have your houses inspected by a professional from time to time to be sure that you catch them early. Termites can do extensive damage. However, it takes a while for them to do significant damage in most cases. Sellers are required to treat for termites if they are found and you are getting a loan. The inspector can tell you where they are located and usually if there is damage. There is no reason to not buy a home because termites are found as long as they are treated and the damage repaired.

They are bad since they might be the source of any sickness or worse, they can't be rid I suppose but you can avoid them from time to time depends on how often you would want them away. Call for Pest Control Experts. They know what t do and of course you'll get hear tips from them on how to avoid pest or termites live in your house. If you are in Orlando, I would suggest this link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/105254854@N05/10253237155/ Good quality Oviedo Termite Control company. I've been their customer for many years now.

I have had issues with Termites on several occasions.
The first thing to do is call an exterminator, See if they are active and the current status of the infestation. Then you need to find a good contractor to see exactly how far the damage has gone.
The contractor should be able to locate the damage and give you an estimate to correct the issues.
Remember that these bugs can be eliminated and a warranty can be given,

Termites are everywhere in the ground along with tree stumps and wood in general. I recommend you never use landscape timbers because they can be a haven for termites and keep shrubs, etc. from touching your house. Unless the house is just completely ate up with them, they can be treated and with the annual contract, you can be sure they stay away or at least have a little peace of mind knowing they will caught early if they do come back. Make sure you get a really thorough inspection.

Years ago the chemical used for pre-treating houses was banned and along came new chemicals, many of which were not very effective but it seems the stuff around now is doing a better job.

Don't be too worried about termites. They are everywhere but with a little effort, they can be controlled.

Have a Blessed day!

Good morning Pastor Bryant:
Are you looking to buy a home or do you already own the home: In oklahoma the seller is required to treat a home for Termites if detected unless it is a foreclosure: If you already own a home then you need to contact a Termite company and schedule a treatment, as far as damage it depends on how long termites have been in the home and you would most likely have to remove the dry wall to investigate: Once you have treated you should not have any more problems for several years may never have another problem:
If you are looking to buy i can help you with the process:

Thank You

Bridget is right on. The termites can be easily eliminated, and most times damge is minimal, but you should definitely hire the pros to have the structure evaluated for safety.

Getting rid of termites is the easy part. But, if they've been there for a while, you really need to have your termite and home inspectors check for structural damage. It could be hidden behind the walls.
