Home buyers, would you hire a buyer's agent to help purchase your home? Why? Why Not?

I am a real estate professional and I would like to understand people's perception of using a buyer agent to purchase a home.

I am an expert in the Bay Area and in certain property types, yet when I went to Spain to buy a vacation condo - which by the way has no real estate license regulations - I chose an agent to help me. I did extensive web research and found an Arakansas ex-pat working for Re/Max in Sitges, outside of Barcelona. It was a pleasure to have an agent I could relate to, who also knew the market inside out. It gave me the confidence to buy a flat and know that the price was right. From first time home buyer to my 50th purchase, If I can't represent myself competently, I definitely want someone who can.
