Has anyone had experience as a buyer with Sirva Relocation?

Asked by Brian, Plainfield, IL Sat Sep 13, 2008

We were informed at the last minute that we would be negotiating with Sirva Relocation for the closing. After briefly reviewing their contract...it seems extremely seller biased. Sirva does not seem to be willing to entertain any of our concerns...extremely disappointing. It hink it may cancel the deal which seems unfortunate not only for us, since we loved the home, but also for the owner of the property...ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I have dealt with Sirva for both sellers and buyers. It is important to express your concerns with your attorney, to see if the items in Sirva's contract that you don't like will actually be pertinent to you. These contracts are so standard that some items may not even apply to your situation,so you may be worried unneccessarily. I have also seen Sirva make exceptions even though they initially said they wouldn't . (Especially with inventory so high, they may be flexible, depending on what issues you are talking about) So at least give it a chance before walking away completely, and good luck!

If your concerns are legitimate they will likely come around. I had a transaction where Sirva actually escrowed $80K for septic replacement. This is typically unheard of yet happened. Most important though is to never fall in love with a home until it is yours! You are most likely going to pay too much.

Relo companies are generally more inflexible than private owners. They haven't lived in the property and do not represent anything about its condition. It basically becomes what you see is what you get. If what you see is not acceptable at this point, you might have to move on to another home. Or better yet, factor the work that has to be done into your offer price and do it yourself after the closing.
