You may want to look at https://harmonyca.nextdoor.com. It is a community site that just got started for the area that might help us organize.

Thank you for all the recommendations. The argument from school district is that Pearl Zanker is at capacity and cannot take any more students. I have heard that the school has received more enrollments than it can taken within couple of weeks of opening enrollment. Looks like city or school district had no viable solution in place for the number of new houses coming up around the area.

The community is still very small with only hand full of people with school going children.

Any suggestions on where to find pointers on making petitions for issues of this sort?

You will have to petition the school district to either change the school attendance areas back to the last year map or for your child to go to the school of your choice. Keep in mind that school districts are independent form the city governments.

Hi Umasuta,

1) Get political and form a neighborhood group.

2) Select a group name and designate TWO members who will represent the group and interact with the press.

3) Form your "action plan".

4) Start an email distribution list to keep all members updated.

5) Prepare for a 12-to-24 month period of attending school board meetings.

6) Review the background of this post: http://www.trulia.com/voices/Home_Buying/Heard_about_Mission…

Also, Alex is generally correct; however, the school district has final jurisdiction in these matters.

If your child is already enrolled and attending pearl zanker than you have nothing to worry about. They will continue to allow the child to go there. Just send me an email if you have any further questions.

Agree with the answer below. Additionally, the latest information is always going to be with the school district. I'd sit down with school district officials to see what your options are.
