FHA report says that I need to scrape and paint all pealing paint on the exterior. It didn't all come off, painted over it. Will it get approved?

We did the best we could! We power washed and scraped the entire exterior of the home. We rented a paint sprayer and we are painting over it. Nothing is chipping off but you can tell that we didn't get all it scraped down to the wood. Is this acceptable for FHA. As soon as we close, we have a grant agency coming through and putting all new siding, windows, window and door frames and covering all trim and eaves with aluminum. So, this project has already been a waste of money. Trying to do this the most affordable way.

The main thing is that there is no active paint flaking off the house. Many times it is hard to make things "perfect" but just use the general rule of thumb, if you can see flaked peeling off, then that's is the problem. Best of luck!

Point this out to the inspector/appraiser. I'm sure he will give you some leeway.

Anna, we were told to scrape it and paint it best we could. No specifics. Martina, siding goes on after closing.

If you have scraped off all the peeling paint and nothing is sticking up then the appraiser will not it on the reinspection. Neither FHA or conventional mortgage allow peeling paint.

If nothing is chipping & you are putting siding over it you may be ok. Check out the FHA website & see if you can get more specifics.

Unfortunately none of us can answer with accuracy as none of us directly involved, nor seen the property, what is your agent advising...
