Estimating average cost to build a home with a unfinished basement.

Asked by Davidfry77, Minnesota Wed Jan 30, 2013

If using the formula of $100 per square foot, would an unfinished basement be less or still considered the same? If not, what is an average cost per square foot of an unfinished space (basement)?

I have the land already. I know their are a lot of variables in estimating cost per foot. If I'm building a 2400 square foot home with an unfinished basement, using the $100 per foot formula, would the cost be roughly $240000 or do most builders charge less per foot for unfinished like a basement? I'm not factoring in permits, land clearing, etc... Just trying to get an idea of average price per square foot for unfinished. Thanks.

Hi David,
Is your formula $100 per finished square foot plus land? Are you thinking about building and finishing the basement later? Most new home designs take advantage of space available and utilize every square foot. Money is the cheapest ever so my clients are taking advantage of the low rates and finishing everything. There are several financing programs available depending on the location of your new home.
