Many properties in the Mendhams are connected to public water thru NJ American Water Company, and some 70% of homes in Mendham Boro are connected to a public sewer system.Homes on Washington Valley Road, however, which is located in Mendham Twp, generally have a well and a septic system.

Most of these properties are well and septic although you should always check with the homeowner to see what else may be in store for a particular property. An agent can help you research this more thoroughly as well. Or call the township public works department at (973) 543-4509.

Most all of Mendham Township has septic systems and wells. If you are considering purchasing e a home with a septic system it is advisable to have a thorough inspection of the system. This would include an open inspection with cameras. Generally, a system should be cleaned out once every three years. The cleaning cost is around $400. The town requires a CERTIFICATE OF CONTINUED USE FOR AN INDIVIDUAL SEWAGE DISPOSAL SYSTEM. Your septic system must be inspected by either a State of NJ licensed professional engineer or a Registered Environmental health Specialist not affiliated with the Township. Application forms are available from the Board of Health office. The Certificate is issued when the application form is returned to the Board of Health.

All wells in Mendham are required to be tested. The town requires a CERTIFICATE OF POTABILITY (for homes with a private well only). The water must be sampled by, and tested by a State certified laboratory for resale parameters required by the Township. The list of required tests is available form the Board of Health. The Certificate is issued when satisfactory test results are supplied to the Board of Health.

Hi Debbie,
The homes currently for sale on Washington Valley Road both have well and septic. It's a very convenient area of Mendham twp for getting to Morristown and the train station. Jackie

Washington Valley Road would appear to have some public water right at the very beginning of the street- the low numbers. Most would seem to be well water. There also seems to be a few homes with gas, most use Oil. In addition, all seem to have septic systems. Call the town for the most up-to-date information. We are happy to help when we can
