Can an agent help find a type of home you're looking for wherever you want to live?

Asked by Jp, 13045 Sun Nov 21, 2010

In the future when I'm looking to purchase a home, I have a pretty specific idea of a home I'd like to buy. Either a cape, log, or colonial style. Would an agent be able to help me find that particular design when I begin searching?

An agent will definitely assist you with finding the type of home you're looking for. Also, if you're looking to relocate to another state, your realtor will give you a referral to an agent in that state.

Best of luck to you!

Yes. Even if that agent is only licensed in a specific state they often have alliances with agents in other states and can assist you as a team.

Yes, any local agent can help you locate a suitable property--however, do consider researching areas online beforehand, visiting neigborhoods more than once, narrowing down areas of interest, etc., in addition, while conducting your search, don't rule out other styles of home as some may have more to offer--also do visit with any qualified loan officer(s) before your search, see if you qualify for a loan, how much, establish a budget, etc.

Yes good agents know their inventory and understand your basic architectural style requirements.
But you can also do some homework for yourself ahead of time and search online sites, newspapers and Craig's List for your area, most of these will have pictures.
This will also help you become educated to the pricepoint of the specific home style that attracts you and will make working with a realtor easier in the future.
Some people make a "clip" file of homes they like and their prices, this is a useful resource for the future, when you are ready to buy.
Good Luck.

Yes. That information would be in the MLS, so an agent could help.

Just to address your question: "Can an agent help find a type of home you're looking for wherever you want to live?" Agents are licensed by state. So an agent only licensed in New York, for example, wouldn't be able to help you find a home in Pennsylvania or Connecticut.

And if you've narrowed down the area you want to search in (let's say to a specific county), it's often better to work with an agent who is very familiar with that county or area.

Hope that helps.

A Realtor is your best resource and most inexpensive tool when looking for a home.

FInd one you connect with and who you are comfortable in explaining what you are looking for and where.

Good Luck!
