Can a contract with an agent to show a buyer homes for sale be cancled?

Asked by Eddee, Troy, MO Mon Jun 7, 2010

Was signed on 6-5-10. First time buyer didn't realize this would lock her into one agent and she is not at that point, yet.

A lot of time the Agent is willing to cancel the contract with a simple phone call. If not, you can talk to the principle broker and have the company assign another agent to you (usually).

Generally, yes. Without knowing the details of the contract, you should be able to provide written cancellation. However, any showings with the agent will likely result in commission being paid to that agent should you decide to buy one of those homes anytime soon.

Is there any reason to cancel it? Its been 2 days. Give the agent a chance to earn your business unless they've already given a reason not to.

Discuss any and all issues with your agent first--if not satisfied, contact the broker owner or office manager of the realty company and disccuss your concerns--oftentimes it is the broker owner that terminates contracts, not the agent.
