Can I get access to a previous FHA appraisal?

Asked by Warriorpoet, Phoenix, AZ Mon Nov 29, 2010

I looking at buying a home that I believe had an FHA appraisal done about 3 weeks ago. Do I have any ability (I'm using FHA as well) to gain access to the appraisal that was done a few weeks ago? It's my understanding that FHA won't do another appraisal if one has already been done in the past 6 months. I'd like to avoid paying for additional appraisal if FHA is going to use the previous one anyway.

Yes, if the previous agent will give you the name of the appraiser. The actual request will have to come from the new mortgage company/broker.

The buyer may have to pay $100-$200 to have the appraisal re-issued (rip off), but it is better than paying for a new appraisal.

Hope this helps.

Yes,

I have had my lenders located the previous appraisal on several occasions. Your lender is going to have to do this anyway so I would ask him or her.

If you don't have a good lender yet, I would recommend using Scott Parker at Hometown Lenders, he is awesome and I have been using him for years. He can track down anything in a New York Minute. His contact information is here
