Best Condo/Lofts in Tucson?

Asked by Jason Frey, Denver, CO Mon May 12, 2008

I plan to buy a condo loft in Tucson. Besides the Ice House lofts, what projects exist with big contemporary high ceiling lofts? Thanks.

Hi Jason,

You're right, I should have been more clear in my response regarding prices being affordable. Compared to a few years ago, prices have indeed come down from the initial pricing strategies.

For example, the there are several active Ice House listings that are listed near their original selling price from 3-4 years ago, an indication of the state of the market the past few years. There is also an active listing for the Academy Lofts that is down nearly 20% from 2006.

Hope this helps Jason, and if you need any more specific information I would happy to email it to you! mk (at)

Hi Jason,

Glad to hear you're moving to Tucson! There are a few condo projects besides the Ice House Lofts that may be of interest to you:

1) The Post Lofts -
2) 44 Broadway -
3) Indigo Modern -
4) Academy Lofts -

There was an article in the Arizona Daily Star last month regarding loft development in Tucson that I think you will find very enlightening, it provided the latest sitreps for current developments and also discussed projects in limbo:

If you would like any more detailed information regarding loft availability I would be more than happy to assist you! Prices have trended downward since 2006 and is now very affordable for everyone.

Ice House is the best in Tucson. I have lived here now for about two years. The units are all privately owned! Not like all the other "lofts" in Tucson. Ice House Lofts are a great place to live if you are looking for something different. It's not for everyone, but is for people who want something that is one of a kind. If you’re wondering why they are so expensive it is because they are trendy. Furthermore, the units under 230,000 are also impossible to find because of the demand.

Some people worry about the train noise. It took about two or three days to get used to it passing. I have found that it is actually a plus and my favorite part about living here. Another plus is that the Ice House is like its own community. A place where everyone says hi and most people meet up on the weekends. Another cool part about this area is that it is pet friendly.

Thanks for the excellent answer. The article you linked to specifically questioned the price of the new loft projects and as such your statement that everything is now affordable doesn't sound like it applies to new lofts. Which lofs are now several years old where resale prices are now substantially lower than the original sales prices? Thanks again....

Michael's response below is excellent and comprehensive. He clearly know his lofts!

Good Luck!
