Are there any programs that help people who want to buy their first home?

Asked by Yvette Perrone, Palmyra, PA Mon May 16, 2011

I want to buy a house. My husband wont accept anything built earlier than 1990. With our budget we would have it's making it impossible. So I want to know if there are any programs that can help us out with purchasing our first home. We are tired of renting and tired of paying someone elses mortgage.

Yvette - Have you looked online? There have to be some homes that fit your criteria in your price range & yes there are programs out there for 1st time homebuyers. What if a house was built in 1978 BUT was completely remodeled inside & out this year? Your best option is to start researching homes online & then connect with a local Agent who represents buyers.

There are a few programs that would work for you. PHFA and USDA might work. There is a Lebanon County program but it has a limit of $140,000 sale price which would most likley be out of the range on a newer home. Feel free to call me to discuss this. 717-270-2672.

Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) offers some programs.

http://www.phfa.org/consumers/homebuyers/homebuyers.aspx is their link.

But what specific "help" are you looking for? As it can come in all varieties. Do you not have a sufficient down payment?
