I always go the the Bar association recommendations if I don't have a personal referral.

You can google your local bar association and look for an attorney who specializes in real estate. The Yellow pages and Yelp and other online directories have lists as well. Most attorneys will provide a free half hour consultation to meet and discuss your problem. Talk to a few and get their fees and then decide.

Choose one that doesn't have a big ego. Make sure they specialize in real estate, responsive, and have a sense of urgency.

Not all real estate attorneys are alike. Some specialize in real estate contract issues, some specialize in real estate brokerage law, others specialize in construction defects. So before you can find a real estate attorney, you need to know what type of real estate attorney you need, based on what advice you are looking for. Then ask you Realtor or their Broker for a recommendation.

Your best advocate in finding a good Real Estate Attorney is to ask your local realtor :) We as Realtors know who know their stuff and who "not so much" Realtors work very closely with attorneys in all of their deal, both with buyers and sellers. Any active Realtor should be able to give you 2-3 recommendations for your needs in your area.
*Word of advice (which you stated in your question) Make sure the Attorney is a REAL ESTATE attorney, they are not all the same!
