Welcome to San Antonio! We like to be known as "Military City, USA". To us, it's not just a catch phrase.....it's something we practice on a daily basis. You will find San Antonio one of the most welcoming cities there is for our military!
Navy Federal is a good lender. However, I advise that you shop around a little for the best balance of rates, costs. etc. Call Jack Shull with Guild Mortgage. He makes it easy to apply on-line, has extra competitive rates, and can close quickly. Remember that money is money and all lenders have the same product. The difference is what the costs are and how easy they make the process. Be careful of lenders that make promises they can't keep. Check with your Realtor is anything doesn't pass the smell test.
I see you've already been told to keep your tax returns and any papers important to the loan process with you. That's good advice as most lenders will need those returns before your household goods arrive.
Regarding your home search, you'll want a good Realtor with experience, who knows their way around San Antonio and who will tell you what you want to know about neighborhoods, schools, various builders, the commute to the Base or Post, and will give you full representation in your purchase. Ask for a resume and don't be afraid to ask questions regarding their qualifications.
Regarding where to start with your home we'll need to know more about what's important to you. Call or write anytime. My contact information is below.
