Hi there! I just saw your post from back in February! The answer is yes, an agent can help to find a single family rental in Harrisburg. I've done it & it worked out well. Many agents don't work with rentals because selling homes is more lucrative. Today's renter could be tomorrows buyer. So don't hesitate to work with an agent if you want a professional to guide you. ... more

It could be a scam Kim. I had a call recently from a man who encountered a craigslist scam that went like this:

He contacted a woman who was advertising a rental. He was new in the area & really needed a 3 bedroom house. He liked the neighborhood & decided to rent it. Gave a check for $1700 to the woman for 1st months rent + security. She gave him a key & pocketed the check. When he went to unlock the door -key did not work. Tried to contact her - could not. Went to the bank- his check had been immediately cashed. He admittedly was scammed for $1700 - in Harrisburg PA.

He called me to ask about another CL rental. I checked tax records & the woman advertising was not listed as the owner of the house. He thanked me and decided to stay in his current rental.

You really have to be soo careful - especially with Craigslist. There is just no accountability.

Dawn - there are a lot of different options available out there. Many people dont know of all the programs available to homeowners. If by chance you wouldnt qualify for a mortgage today there are lenders and programs available to help people build and restore credit to get them to a point of being able to purchase. There are programs available to assiist with down payments and closing costs. There is no fee for you to sit down and discuss your options and perhaps get on a plan for future purchase. ... more
