Hi Gsteve55 - I've lived here in Greenville for just over six years and I'd say that for folks who enjoy the outdoors, this is an excellent place to live. If you located within the downtown/north side, you're within 15 minutes of both Furman and North Greenville universities (which have beautiful campuses for walking & bike riding and 15-20 minutes of several beautiful state parks, such as Paris Mountain and Jones Gap. Just a bit further away are Table Rock State Park and beautiful lakes such as Joccassee and Keowee. As an avid hiker myself, I can attest to the beauty and benefits of the hiking trails in the area!

The northern part of the county is also very popular with cyclists and there are a number of resources for cycling information, trail maps, etc., especially from the Hincapie brothers, Rich and George. You should look up their projects, Pla d'Adet and Hotel Domestique, both of which are geared towards cyclists.

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local authorities with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods. http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/ https://www.crimereports.com/http://www.homefair.com/ ... more

Kevin, I would say it is still a buyers market. Homes here that are in good condition and priced correctly move rather fast. Also consider that mortgage rates are still at almost all time lows. If you get a chance contact me and we can discuss a strategy -Thanks Michael Vallely ... more

Brenda,

It sounds like you and your husband are new to the business and you should realize that's what it is- a business with rules, regs, restrictions, etc. The best thing you can do is to get educated and associated with other like-minded people; there is a non-profit group, Upstate Carolina Real Estate Investors Association (Upstate CREIA, or UCREIA) that would be a great place to start. You can go to their website, www.upstatecreia.com and see the different meetings and seminars that are being held, including a beginner's seminar on February 1 that I would encourage you to attend. There is also a monthly Professional Focus Group that is tomorrow the 27th you are also welcome to. I will be attending it. ... more

Greenville, SC has so much to offer with the sporting events (ice hockey, baseball, etc) and the arts (Peace Center, SC Children's Theater) and the food (over 82 restaurants downtown Greenville).

As for schools, each public school is a little different. Depending on what your children are interested in such as Engineering, Arts, sports, etc. may be the deciding factor on which school district you will want to be located.

I personally bought in Anderson County because of the great academics that Wren and Powdersville Schools have. We are only 10 miles to Greenville and our schools are top notch. If you are looking for a private school, Christ Church is one of the best.

You can go to schooldigger.com and search the different schools.

If I can be of any help, please contact me at 864-630-3195 of jpruitt@cbcaine.com

Thanks

Jason
