Victory Property Management answered:
Most landlords and property management companies are going to run a credit check on whomever will be signing the lease. Being regularly late on making any payments is a bad sign. If, however, this is the first time you are late and you have the money to make the payment just be upfront with them and let them know this was a one time event. As long as your boyfriend has good credit, it may not hold back your application. ... more

Is your voucher for Greensboro?
There are a few apartment complexes around that will accept section 8 vouchers.
As far as rental companies, most of them do not currently accept section 8 vouchers. I would like for apartment or townhouse complexes on Google and find ones that accept section 8. ... more

Jen Hill answered:
Hi, Cynthia. I think it really depends on what kind of rental you are looking for. From my experience of renting myself, apartment complexes will want to run your credit. I don't know the specifications of what score you need to have, but sometimes having another person to co-sign on an application will help, and sometimes they just want to see your payment history. If you are looking to rent a house, then it would depend on whether the house is being rented by owner or by a property management group. If you go on Craigslist or drive the area, you can find a lot of rentals by owner, and it would be up to the owner as to whether they decide to run your credit. Some of the owners who run credit reports, don't pay as much attention to credit score as they do your rental and payment history. I think, being honest with someone up front will make a difference, as well. I wish you the best of luck, and if there is anything that I can help you with, don't hesitate to call me! The best place to look would be Craigslist, or Apartments.com, these sites are more focused on apartment rentals and rental homes in the area.

Are you looking to rent? Or are you looking to buy?

If your looking to rent, my office has a team that helps people find rentals. It is of no cost to you, they get paid when you move into a rental they help you find.

Also, I would recommend checking Craigslist, as there a lot of rentals on there that dont show up to Real estate agents in the area. Make sure to do your research on the area!

Let me know if I can be of any help!

Martin Luther King (MLK) Blvd/HWY 421 - General high crime area

E Market St - High crime area, mainly drugs/prostitution

E Lee St - Safer than the above two, but generally sketchy area

Phillips Ave - VERY BAD crack problem, it runs along side the Claremont Housing Project which is unsafe even during the day

Florida St - Same as Phillips Ave, but different housing project (Smith Homes), high number of shootings in this area

E Wendover - Lots of crack houses and robberies, generally unsafe at night

Hampton Homes - Right where Elm and Eugene intersect. Dangerous area but otherwise Elm-Eugene is okay, just run down.

Ray Warren Homes - Housing project off E Lee St. High crime.

Randleman Rd- Mixed. Some parts are OK, some are sketchy.

Summit Ave - Some parts are fine, others you should stay away from. Best to avoid after dark.

Vandalia Rd- Lots of heroin/opiate addicts/dealers in this area.

Other than the above, most areas of da'boro should be fine.

I also go to A&T. I would not recommend living anywhere near campus however, or even in East Greensboro for that matter. There is higher crime in that area. I live about 20 mins. away and commute to school. Different strokes for different folks, but anywhere near E. Lee and East Market St is not too safe. Stay on the west side. ... more
