I am a U.S. Army Veteran and as a Realtor work with Veterans. I have always found the best service to Veterans is a local lender - and there are quite a few. Each Veteran's situation is different and I try and match the Veteran's needs with the appropriate lender. The online national lenders sound great from a convenience point of view but if you contact one of the lenders that say they will shop for the best rate for you, they will send all your personal information to many lenders and every time each of these lenders pulls a credit report to qualify you your credit score generally takes a hit; and good luck communicating with each of these lenders to tell them you already have a lender and don't need more credit. It is baffling to me why anyone would be so free and loose with their most personal information.... more
Tom had the best advice. The rental market here is terrible for those looking to rent---GREAT for landlords. Why? Thousands of Oregonians lost their homes to foreclosure and thousands more will. This state was hit hard. With all the displaced ex-owners out looking for a place to live, investors started gobbling up rentals and raising rates.. Tom is correct about going out from the city center. Actually, some of the best rent rates around are over the river in Vancouver and Camas.
Regarding PETS---the landlords can ask for anything they want and there will be 100 people standing in back of you who dont have pets---why should they risk pet damage? (Devils advocate---I have dogs and couldnt part with them) Go to the EAST SIDE for cheaper rentals and more animal allowing properties. Craigs list (wish Id thought of it!!!) owns the market... more
