I love this question! Miami Shores is a great community! How well aware are you of your surroundings? Are you an easy target? You can take precaution to protect yourself and family from being a victim. Contact the local police department for a statistics and ideas on the best way to protect yourself and family wherever you decide to buy or shop. Motion Sensor lights on each corner of your home are an effective way to deter activity. Make friends with your neighbors so the word is out that the neighbors monitor eachother.

All the Best!

For any safety concerns you may have--for accurate and up to the minute information, do contact/visit with the local authorities, ask all your questions and hear all there is to hear firsthand; also if not familiar with the area, do visit more than once and at different times of day, chat with locals if possible....

Hi Rosa:

Rick and Ines of Miami Shores, as well as Anna in Nassau County, NY make very good points. Miami Shores is a wonderful place to live- a mixed neighborhood- lots a shopping, many varieties of dwellings, a beautiful waterfront, and a rich Miami History.

Miami Shores is just as safe as any American City.

When we look at the map- we see that Miami Shores is surrounded by these neighborhoods- El Portal, North Miami, and to the East- Surfside, Bal Harbour North Bay Village and Normandy Isle.

Miami Shores, being on the mainland- will be more affordable than Miami Beach- Take a look at City-Data for the types of crimes that are prevalent in The Shores.

Miami Shores is one of the hidden treasures of Miami. The perfect example of a small piece of Suburbia close to everything!! I would suggest you look at for crime statistics. Miami is a big metropolitan hub and crime is common, but it's usually minor crime that can be prevented with common sense (don't leave purse in your car, pay attention to your surroundings and have keys in hand when leaving an establishment, etc.).

I've lived in Miami Shores almost 30 years and would not live anywhere else. Check out an article we wrote about crime in Miami
