So you've heard all about the western side of Austin, which has excellent schools and is a wonderful place to live. However, I prefer the central Austin, where everything happens. Our daughter goes to Lee elementary, which then feeds into Kealing middle school. Lee is exemplary and is a very small school with around 400 students total. We even have the option of staying at Lee for 6th grade, or transitioning into the Magnet program at Kealing, parent's choice. Lee serves the area just north of The University of Texas campus to 47th street, and everything west of IH 35 and east of Guadalupe. The parents are comprised of professors, grad students, medical professionals, musicians, small business owners, writers, actors and yes a couple of realtors. It is a wonderfully diverse and highly educated group of parents who are heavily involved in the PTA and all school activities. As for living in central Austin, I love it! We can walk to anything, restaurants, clubs, coffee shops, down town etc. And we rarely need to get on the freeway, except to head out of town on the occasional excursion. If you are an urbanite at heart, please consider the heart of Austin as your possible landing place. I love it hear. Can you tell I'm biased?
