Good question Shirley. It depends on her likes and dislikes really. There are some great pocket neighborhoods in Columbus that are close to retail centers, schools, parks and community centers. There are also a lot of amazing burbs that offer a departure from city living but are within a short distance of the city center. You can always get onto sites like or check out one of our local TV station's websites at They will give you a bit more feel for the activities around the communities. Then do the background work on an area your interested in. Or better yet, have your agent send you a community report. I have a program that runs statistics and metrics on every local area. There is a lot out there to dig through, but that just makes a lot to love about Central Ohio! Best of Luck!

Hi Shirley,
Wow, Big Bear Lake. Is that where your daughter is moving from? I grew up in Northern Calif. however have spent a lot of time in So. Calif where my sister and my mom lived (Orange County). Always wanted to go to Big Bear Lake and never made it for one reason or another.

Everyone has pretty much given you the answers you need. I'll tell you there are certain things we as Realtors can't tell you. We can't say one school district is better than another or one is family oriented over another. However, we can take her around and show her various neighborhoods, show her homes in those neighborhoods and tell her where to find information on schools which is public information.

I would love to work with your daughter, I can be contacted at and my website is where you or your daughter can do searches and look online.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Hi Shirley,

The answer to your question probably requires a more in-depth discussion than can be accomplished on-line. There are several "family oriented" areas and many good school systems in-and-around Columbus. I work in and around the entire Columbus area as well as the surrounding counties, some of which are within (30) minutes of Columbus. FYI, I specialize in working with buyers and I have worked with many in-bound relocation buyers. Take a moment to check out my website if you have a chance. It has information about schools, local communities and helpful information for home buyers.

Hi Shirley,
Thank you for your inquiry. There are many areas that meet your qualifications. I live and work in the Northwest area of Central Ohio. I can strongly recommend Grandview Heights, Upper Arlington, Clintonville, Worthington, Dublin, Powell, Westerville or Hilliard. Each of these communities has a long list of positives and a unique personality for the family lifestyle offered. I would be happy to review each or any with you and your daughter. My suggestion is a phone call in the near future. Drop me an e-mail with a number that is comfortable for you.
