Why hasn't Marta been expanded to be more in line with other world class cities?

Help the community by answering this question:

Because Atlanta is not a world class city - see 1996 Olympics

Because Atlanta rolls up the sidewalks at night, it's barely a 12 hour city never mind 24

Because Atlanta has no real central business district - Buckhead financial area is a possible exception but clearly isn't downtown

Because Atlanta is epically mismanaged and a text book example of what doesn't work and how not to run a city

Because MARTA has zero appeal to 96% of the people, pick any one of 100 reasons

Because what's the point of expanding MARTA when you have about 1 BILLION in estimated sewer and other infrastructure reapirs looming

Because Because Because.....

Good answers from Brian and Beppy.

I do believe that Beppy has an excellent suggestion for you, Trulia Atlanta.

Otherwise, Curbed, Creative Loafing, The AJC or the Atl Biz Chron probably have articles about this very matter.

I googled for an article on the subject - check the web reference for the Loaf's "Adventures in Mismanagement" article from 2001.

"The fact is that it's difficult to get anybody excited about MARTA when only 4 percent of the metro population uses it..."

Money, differing County and City Governments, Reluctance of the Middle Class to use public transportation. Marta is slower than driving.

Hi Trulia Atlanta, I suggest posing this question to a MARTA manager ... perhaps he or she can
tell you about future route, car development.
