Shippan, north Stamford are the places to be. Sadly, the public schools are terrible. Those of us who live here know it and when we can, either send our kids to private school, or move to Darien, New Canaan, Ridgefield, or the Westport area. Lost many neighbors when their kids got to school ages...

Call the police station in the neighborhoods you are considering, and ask them what the crime rate is. Also they may have info on the local police website.

FYI I took your suggestion and called for my daughter who will be moving to Stamford after graduation. I asked the officer about info neighborhood safety he replied no we do not give out information about neighborhood safety info then I asked can you give me any suggestion where to search for info and he replied "NO". He is not friendly and not wanting to help.

Hello Livio,
Mark is correct in that real estate agents cannot give advice on what neighborhoods may be better or safer than others. It's called "steering".

Here is a link to all the Connecticut school profiles where you can look up the strategic profiles on the Stamford schools:

Hope this is helpful.

Livio,
Take a look at these websites.
Stamford is a large city with a variety of neighborhoods.
Once you choose where you want to live you might want to pick a preschool nearby.

Good morning Livio,
Unfortunately US and Connecticut law forbids real estate agents from categorizing some neighborhoods as "better" or "worse." Besides, a "better" neighborhood for some may not be seen as such to others. We can certainly give factual information on school testing results on standardized exams and also the Stamford Police Department has statistics on crime rates for all parts of Stamford. You can discuss further with your agent once you are touring the City with them. For preliminary information on schools please visit http://www.stamfordpublicschools.org and for the police department please visit http://www.ci.stamford.ct.us
Thank you, Mark
