Where should we go to in Staten Island?

Asked by Rambone, Staten Island, NY Wed Jul 18, 2012

We are thinking of moving to Staten Island from Queens, to have more space, live in greener place, and pay less rent. Some details:

We don't have a car and I'd have to commute to Manhattan, sometimes to the Bronx. So somewhere near an express bus would be best. We don't have a car. -- We are a couple with a baby and 2 small dogs. -- Somewhere clean, safe. -- Parks and dog runs and similar things are a huge plus. Also nice would be a place we could walk around, with cafes, bookstores, things like that.

Any suggestions?

It depends if you want to buy or rent....Livingston and Randall Manor are nice areas close to the Ferry (free). There are express buses all over but naturally the closer you live to the bride, the quicker you'll get to Manhattan or the Bronx.

There are so many neighborhoods in Staten Island that give you that Country feeling but living in NYC. I would suggest that you live close by the train being that you don't drive and the train can take you about 10 minutes to the ferry which you can get on and take to the city from there. Neighborhoods that are great check out New Dorp;Oakwood Heights;Bay Terrace, Great Kills;Annadale;huguenot;eltingville; If you want to stay closer in try Grasmere very nice neighborhood as well. Before you move I suggest traveling from the ferry to the trains and spending a few hours in each neighborhood, see what feels good. Also if you don't want to be by the trains you also have the express bus but for now this is a good start. Wish you the Best, in your next chapter!!!! Jeannette Batsikas
