Hi Tracy,
I think that's a lifestyle choice that would depend on you and your family's needs. East of 400 tends to have smaller lots and more of a neighborhood feel. West is getting more into horse country with larger equestrian style estates in many of the subdivisions. You can probably find any type of neighborhood on either side of 400 but your husband's commute to Norcross could be considereably longer if you decide to live on the west side of Alpharetta. By the way, if you are looking on the west side you should definitely consider the new city of Milton in your search. The schools are very popular in that area as well. Milton is a new high school and sought after by many Buyers. I'm not sure of your price range but you will find housing on the west side is a little higher up in average price than the east. We helped a family find a home in Sable Point last year in Milton. They have a young girl and boy and seem to like it over there. Sable Point is about 7 miles from the intersection of Windward Pkwy and Hwy 9. Here is a link to listings in that neighborhood.

Some others you might consider are The Manor Golf and Country Club, Litchfield Hundred, White Columns, The Overlook at Litchfield, Canterbury on The Lake, Harrington Falls, Triple Crown, Six Hills, Crooked Creek, Brierfield, Valmont, Bethany Commons, Crabapple Crossroads, Belleterre, Sunvalley and Edenwilde to name a few. Again this all depends on your personal tastes and choice of lifestyle. We would be happy to sit down with you for a needs analysis consultation and help narrow these choices down to the neighborhoods that are the best fit for you and your family. I'm a westside guy, live here with my office just west of Windward. The east-west difference is pretty stark with the east side having a higher density of homes and more conveniences closer by. That's good since traffic can be absolutely horrible here. The west side still retains a country feel due to the presence homes on acreage and the many equestrian farms. Communities here tend to be higher priced and have more significant amenities packages - many with golf. Traffic isn't quite as bad, but this is Metro Atlanta after all.

It all depends on where the center of your universe will be - where you have to be everyday.

Tracy,

If you based it on price alone, then the West Side would be more desirable to live. It depends on what you want. Do you want convenience (East Side) or do you want rolling hills and horse farms (West Side).

Both sides are nice so much is personal preference. Personally, we have lived on the east side for over 20 years and love it. We prefer the east side but that is just us. It seems much depends on the need to access GA 400 and/or what schools/shopping a family prefers.

My son went to Chattahoochee High... great school... I live on the east side... love it. I think you'll get the same response from anyone who lives on the west side... One thing you may want to consider is the commute to work (unless, of course, you are lucky enough to work at home).
