Winthrop is by far the best seaside town near Boston. Considering Winthrop is only 4 miles from downtown Boston the real estate prices are extremely reasonable. There is a ferry into Boston and a bus that runs through out the town with a pick up and drop off at Orient Heights (Blue Line).

There is Lynn on the North-Shore, Quincy on the South-Shore. Both have an easy commute using the commuter rail, the T or the ferry (for Quincy). South Boston has a nice beach-front but it is not the ocean.

There are a few options in Boston. It all depends on budget and how close you want to be. I have a few options on my site. http://www.realtyaplus.com under the rentals tab. I'd be happy to help you out.

There are many towns near Boston that have ocean views. Most of them are very expensive but I have found that Quincy is relatively close to town and has public transportation and reasonable priced.

Falmouth MA is reputed to have more waterfront than any other town in the US.
An hour from Boston or Providence.
Good year round, and an international summer resort.

Areas of Charlestown, South Boston, North End, East Boston, Winthrop, parts of Quincy, Weymouth and Dorchester. It all depends on your budget and the length of time you are willing to commute.

East Boston, Jeffries Point, between Maverick Square and Logan airport is the last best deal on real estate in the city. You are less than 10 minutes from State Street by the Blue Line. The harbor walk and the new park are beautiful. Come to East Boston and afford a "seaside city home"!
