Where do Chugiak residents go for groceries and gas?

Asked by kellymarciales, Anderson, SC Mon Oct 14, 2013

We are looking to relocate to Eagle River/Chugiak area from Southern California. We have major grocery stores on ever corner and gas stations every other corner (it seems), but the maps of Chugiak and Eagle River don't seem to have any amenities.
I'm wondering where does everyone go for groceries, gas and other essentials?

Eagle River has 3 or 4 gas stations, several small shops and several restaurants. There's a large Fred Meyers Grocery store with a gas station that has the same frequent-shopper discount program Safeway has. There's also a Safeway/Carrs (long-time local grocery bought out by Safeway and a discount program).

As Christopher said, there's a Chevron/Convenience store combo on the Cook Inlet side of the Glenn Highway (our highways have names and very few of us remember the numbers) in Peters Creek (between Eagle River and Chugiak).

If you like less congestion, you can shop in Palmer. There's a smaller Fred Meyers with a gas station down the street, and a Safeway/Carrs store with a gas station. Several restaurants ~ you'd probably love Turkey Red (local, fresh veggies, fresh baked pastries/breads, etc.), Vagabond Blues (coffee house) and Rusty's steak house. There's also a wonderful walkable shopping area along the main thoroughfare. Places like NonEssentials (gifts, specialty foods, knick knacks, accessories, etc.), Fireside Books, the Stamp Cache, Infusions Boutique clothing and sooo much more.

We're just as dependent as Californians on our cars. Just ask me, a former Northern Californian (Santa Cruz). Welcome to Alaska!

Alice Mae's in peters creek usually has the cheapest gas, there is also a chevron gas station that has a small convenience store in peters creek. For the most part going to Eagle River is best. We have Walmart, Fredmeyers, Carrs Grocery store, walgreens, ect...
