I was interested in buying a commercial property in Chicago, however I wanted to know where can I find out about zoning and if a barbershop/beauty shop is okay,

From a quick glance at the Chicago Zoning Ordinance, (you can get to the Text through the link Bill provided) a Barber Shop is considered to be under item MM. Personal Service. It should be permitted without special use approval in B and C Districts subject to use standard 17-9-0109.
