What is the parking situation like in the Inner Richmond?

Asked by Christina Chen, San Francisco, CA Thu Oct 27, 2011

If I own a car and am commuting to work, is it easy for me to find street parking or should I find an apartment with parking.

The parking in the Inner Richmond is relatively easy compared to other parts of the city, with Russian Hill, Pacific Heights, Nob Hill and the Marina being the most difficult.

For residents of inner richmond, the street parking is first come, first serve. However, the downside is that there is street cleaning where you have to move your car during those times.

From the sfmta website: In general, business streets are swept four times per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays) on one side of the street and three times per week on the other side (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays). They are swept between 6am and 8am. Additionally, sections of some business streets are swept seven days per week on both sides of the street between midnight and 6am. They include: (1) Embarcadero; (2) Mission Street; (3) Market Street; (4) North of Market; (5) Third Street; (6) Chinatown/North Beach; (7) Sixth Street; and (8) Van Ness/South Van Ness.

More information on street cleaning and exact days here: http://www.sfdpw.org/index.aspx?page=323

There is permit street parking available near inner richmond for residents, which would fall under the N permit, which will cost you $100 a month.

There are large sections of metered only parking along the major streets, such as Geary and Balboa, but there are limited to an hour max during working hours and Saturdays.

Hi Christina,

I would check out this inner-richmond parking map:

to see for yourself.

I agree with Eric that parking there is generally easier to find there compared to other parts of the city but I would recommend finding a building with parking. There are 6-10 private parking facilities in the area that you could probably pay to have a monthly spot at. Use the map above to find parking rates at these locations.
