This area is close to some bus lines, but is relatively far from the last Mission BART (subway) stop. It can be difficult to get here without a car or taxi (particularly at night - when walking is dangerous as well!). It is a bit more dangerous compared to other areas of the Mission.

It all depends where do you live in Bernal Heights. Our home is close to Mission Street, BART is a walking distance, more or less one mile from our house, depending on the shortcuts one takes. Crime wise if we look at Police Reports we are average or less than average compare to other neighborhoods in the city. In general the neighborhood is good. As other areas in Mission is concerned we disagree, Bernal is a lot safer than Excelsior and even more safe than the other Mission areas beyond Cesar Chavez (Army st.) including Potrero Hill. Just look up the Police records.
