Curious ForC…, Home Buyer in Alabama

We have a chance to move to Chattanooga. Which area/communities offer both good schools & good city life?

Asked by Curious ForChatt, Alabama Mon Apr 1, 2013

We have a 3-yr-old girl. So schools are a big consideration but we would like to be close to city/shopping/restaurants as well. We will commute to downtown. Any suggestions?

Real Estate Agents are not allowed to comment on a variety of topics. The Fair Housing Act restricts the information that can be provided by a Real Estate Agent.

Off Limit Topics Include:
• Crime Statistic (including questions about whether a neighborhood is good or bad or safe)
• Demographics
• Environmental Concerns
• Household Income
• Religion
• Schools (including questions about how good or bad the school is)

Determining to the answers to questions on any of the topics listed above is something that you would need to do on your own. It is up to the individual to make their own determination about a specific area. If a Real Estate Agent were to comment on such a thing, it could be steering which is a prohibited act.

Some websites to try include:

I appreciate all the responses and didn't know it's only realtors on this website. However, let me change my question a little bit since I now have lots of resources to refer in terms of schools. Thanks again.
What we are looking for is family communities/neighborhoods that offers city living such as condos/townhouses hopefully close to restaurants/shopping and maybe with a community pool. I didn't come across many, except one very expensive 3 bedroom apartment in North Chatt. Where should I concentrate my search or how should I go about looking for such a home?

Hello and I hope the opportunity to move here to Chattanooga becomes a reality. Chattanooga is an awesome place to call home! As with everywhere, you will find your good, bad ... and dare I say Ugly? :-) The secret to finding a good home considering you have children is to zero in on a safe area for your family. Chattanooga is very easy to navigate around and you can virtually be from one end of the county to the other in 30 minutes. So, determine your school area would be my advise. We have numerous good schools to choose from here in our Scenic City. Shool enrollment is determined by location, of course I am sure you are aware. I shall help you determine which school is best for you and yours as well as the convenience of getting to work and back home as quickly and easily as possible. We have many areas which fall into a 100% financing opportunty which is very attractive to many folks. Also, bear in mind the tax rates differ in county and city... So much to remember when choosing your next home. This is an exciting time to find yourself here in Chattanooga. I wish you the best in your future and remember if I can be of any assistance all you have to do is give me a shout out. I am here to help you in any and all capacity. As always, we must bloom where planted and I know it is possible!

North Chattanooga is just across the river from downtown and offers a mix of new construction, older homes (1920's-40's, some restored and some not), and condo developments. You can search for the 37405 zip code to see what all might be available in this area. North Chattanooga also is home to Normal Park Museum Magnet school which is one of the most highly rated schools in the district. This area would provide easy access to shopping, outdoor activities, and a variety of restaurants. Many people who live in this area are able to leave the car at home and enjoy the downtown area on foot or by bike. Let me know if you have any additional questions about your potential move to Chattanooga.
