There is a charming community right by the Danville country club and Mt. Diablo park. Anyone know the name of the area?

Asked by Armina, Davis, CA Sun May 22, 2011

These homes are each unique and fairly old but nicely maintained. Some of them had bridges that crossed over to get to the homes. What is the name of the area and what is the price range for these homes?

How popular is this area? Do many homes come on the market in this area and is there a high demand? We were interested in getting a house in this area and want to know what to expect.

Diablo Country Club is the area you find so charming... and many agreee with your findings... This also reflects the higher property values there.

Danville is a great town, with plenty of neighborhoods with it's each individual charm. It is important for you to build a relationship with a reltor in the area so they can 1) First listen to your needs 2) See if your eyes match your budget 3) Tour the areas together so you understand the value in the differences 4) have your agent be your eyes and ears about new properties that are coming available. Great homes are often sold even before it hits the MLS.

I am not certain what you mean by Danville Counrty Club, but I am assuming you mean either Diablo Counrty club or Blackhawk Country Club. In either case, the "charming community" you refer to might be Hidden Oaks, the first part of Blackhawk to be built. I have lived in Hidden Oaks for more than 25 years, and I can attest to the fact that it is a truly charming community with large lots, beautiful oaks and mature trees, backing to Mount Diablo state park. There are currently 3 properties on the market in Hidden Oaks now, ranging from $1,399,000 up to just under $2,000,000. Additionally, I will soon be putting a wonderful 5BR home on market in Hidden Oaks which will be in the $1,200,000 range. This home sits on about 2/3 acre!

Armina ... while there are three country clubs in the immediate area including, Blackhawk in Danville (built mostly in the 1980's and early 90's), Roundhill in Alamo (built mostly in the late 1960's and 1970's) and Diablo (originally built in the early 1920's), the specific area you are describing is Diablo. This little community was originally built as summer homes for the wealthy from San Francisco. Some of the homes were rather modest, but many were quite grand and had and some still have some absolutely exquisite wood detail finish work espcecially to the interior. Many of these homes fell into disrepair in the late 60's (including several of those grand homes with bridges), but most have been "rediscovered" and have been brought back to their old splendor. If you look carefully you can see the similarities to the grand homes built in the Elmwood, Rockridge and Claremont districts of Berkeley and Oakland and also Piedmont ... all of which were built up during that same 1900 to 1930 time frame.

The current price range of the 13 homes is between $1,250,000 to over $6.8 million. the one home on the market that was built back in the 20's is priced at $2.3 million

Hope that helps. Contact me if I can be of further help.

Hello Armina:

You are undoubtedly thinking about Diablo Country Club. They are all custom homes in an area that has a very "English" or Country feel, Lot sizes are generous, typically upwards of an acre and prices are from around $1m to 5m and up.

Some amazing homes here.

Hi Armina,
As mentioned below, there are many small communities near Mt. Diablo, included Diablo itself. I just did an open house in Diablo at a beautiful home with views to die for! The best advise is to align yourself with a local realtor that can help you navigate through the market.

Diablo is another community with a lovely golf course and is at the base of Mt. Diablo State Park and the mountain. It's probably that community you are thinking of. Blackhawk is part of Danville, and then of course there Alamo with Roundhill Country Club. But it's really Diablo that we consider to be at the base of Mount Diablo, custom homes on large lots, each different from the other, some big, some small. 14 homes have sold there since January 2010 (about a year and a half) and only one of those under $1million. That one sold for less because the land under the house is leased, not owned......The highest selling home in that period of time sold for $3,000,000.

The area you might be referring to is Blackhawk. It is east of Danville, approximately 10-15 minutes from the highway: Very nice, very expensive. Balckhawk Country Club, Blackhawk Car Museum, Jose Canseco had a house there along with a lot of other stars.
