Relocating to Chesapeake, Va in Aug 2010, can you direct us to the best family friendly areas?

Asked by Navyspouse11, Chesapeake, VA Fri Nov 6, 2009

My husband and 16 yr son will move in Aug 2010 and then I will join them in July/Aug 2011 since our 2nd son will be a senior in 2010/11 school year. Can you direct us to an area with the best schools for all ages/athletics/least crime/located close to Chesapeake General Hospital? I wish to find an area that will suite our needs for both moves so that we don't have to move our high school student twice? We are looking to rent a 2br in Aug 2010 and then rent/purchase a larger place in July/Aug 2011. I am presently debating between Hickory High and Great Bridges area. We will be coming to the area the first week of Dec this year to look around the area and narrow down our search. Then will return in the summer to locate our first rental.

Dear Navysouse 11:

First I want to thank your family for serving our country. As a military spouse myself, relocating can be very stressful. I would like to suggest you research and for more information regarding the schools in Chesapeake, Virginia. Nobody but you can determine what is best for children regarding their educational needs. There are other sites as well. Please visit my website at Here you will locate rental homes and sales for the Chesapeake areas. If you would like more information, please contact me. My information is located at

Thank you and best wishes.

Hickory and Great Bridge are both excellent choices. You may want to consider adding Grassfield school district as well. I am a resident in the Grassfield district and I have been very pleased. I too have family and know the importance of checking out the crime rate and athletic activities offered. If you let me now which sports your two son's are intrested in I would be happy to provide you with links to local community teams.

Your opions are plenty as far as searching for a home in Hickory, Great Bridge or Grassfield and all are locatd just minuts from Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. I am assuming you will be seeking employment with Chesapeake Regiona Medical Center. I have several friends that work or have worked there and seemed pretty happy here.

If you have any further questions, I would be more than happy to assist you.
