Yes it is and as far as the transfer tax this is based on a area price etc if you have a home in question please feel free and I can give you the transfer tax based on that property.

Hi Sheila, Darnestown is an unincorporated area that covers neighborhoods in zips 20878 (Gaithersburg / North Potomac), 20874 (Germantown) and some of 20850 (Rockville) and 20854 (Potomac). The Darnestown Civic Association maintains a web site that has a map and other details (see link below). With a few exceptions, homes in Darnestown are all on private well and septic which requires larger lot sizes -- 1 to 2+ acres. Homes here definitely have a country feel.

Darnestown shares zip codes with both Germantown (20874) and Gaithersburg (20878).

The combined state/county transfer tax is 1.5% and is typically split between the buyer and seller.

There is also a recording tax of .69% up to $500,000, then 1% of the portion over $500,000.

A credit of 1/4% is given on the transfer tax for first time MD homebuyers. Also, a $345 credit on the recording tax if the property is your principal residence.
