There are many great areas to rent in that part of town that are safe and very nice. I was born and raised here myself and know the city very well.

The Hancock Park neighborhood is very close to there and is an excellent area. So is University Hills.

I hope that helps! Good luck and if you need more help, I would be happy to assist you. I have worked with many people and families re-locating to Austin.

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local authorities with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods. http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/

You can always check the local police dept. website for crime statistics.

Hope this helps.

Here's a link to the Austin, Texas Police Department's Crime Viewer.

If you'd like to go over some living options in that area, contact me to make an appointment. I am a full time apartment locator based in North Central Austin. I'd be glad to help you out.
