I am looking to buy in Minnesota. Either the Lakeville or Fairbolt area.

Asked by Andrea, Mesa, AZ Tue Sep 17, 2013

I am looking to buy in Minnesota. Either the Lakeville or Fairbolt area. I am seeking a community that is safe, clean, and that has a great school system. My daughter will be starting Kindergarten very soon! My husband will probably work out of Minneapolis. I, on the other hand, want to work in a Doctor's office, clinic, or hospital. I have worked in the medical field for several years in registration, admitting, client/patient service's, etc. Therefore, I need to live in a community where I can find a job in that feild or similar! I would greatly appreciate any feedback on schools, communities, pros, cons, job opportunities, etc for the Lakeville and Fairbolt area.

Hi Andrea,

I don't know if you have made a move yet but I wanted to give you my thoughts on Lakeville versus Faribault in case you're still considering a move. Growing up in a smaller Minnesota community (similar to Faribault) I have a lot of respect for the lifestyle that Faribault can offer. I'm familiar with Faribault as I sold a couple listings there over the last year but am also very familiar with Lakeville because it's where I chose to live and raise my kids. Lakeville has recently passed the school referendum which provides our schools with adequate funding that will keep ISD 194 at the top. Check out http://www.GreatSchools.com and you'll see just how high Lakeville schools rank in test scores. Because we're a part of the metro area there are a lot of job opportunities to be mentioned, especially in health care as you inquired about. If you're considering Faribault or Lakeville for the reasons you mentioned I think you would be much happier with Lakeville, however the price point will be higher. Call me anytime to discuss the pros and cons about these areas. I built my business as well as my personal life around this area because it has so much to offer. Thanks, Andrea.

Hi Andria,
If you haven't decided on Lakeville or Faribault yet, I think it would be helpful to contact a Realtor and have a conversation regarding your needs and desires and it may be that you would choose a city like Apple Valley or because of traffic, just north of the river like West Bloomington or even Richfield. I'm sure you will find work in the medical field anywhere you go but traffic is terrible going up to Minneapolis from Lakeville or Faribault. I would like you to check out a few homes that will be coming on the market soon and if you send me your email I will send you pictures. My email is on my website http://www.c21mn.com and I would love to work with you. I could pick you up at the airport if you have a planned trip to MSP. Again it is best to contact a Realtor directly to get your information. Good Luck in your home search.
Also an excellent practice is to check with a mortgage broker before you start looking and I recommend Brian Parkinson who lives in Lakeville and work for Alerus Mortgage. You can get his info on his website http://www.brianparkinson.com or you can choose a mortgage broker of your choice.

Dear Andrea,

Moving can be an exciting as well as stressful experience, and it's good you are reaching out to find out as much as possible about the areas you are considering.

Lakeville is a great city as well as the surrounding communities of Apple Valley, Rosemount, Eagan, Burnsville and Inver Grove Heights. Lakeville is about an hour(depending on traffic) from Minneapolis and 45 minutes from St Paul.

Hopefully another realtor will respond about Fairbault so you can make a well-informed decision. Unfortunately, I do not work in that area.

You should not have a problem finding employment in any of the above medical areas since there are many clinics, and hospitals (Fairview Ridges in Burnsville) within a short driving distance. Below I've included a link to the Fairview Health Services website.

Should you have any other questions about the area, please don't hesitate to call or email. My office with Keller Williams Preferred Realty is located in Lakeville and my website is 7eRealEstate.com and email is KSevigny@kw.com. My last name is pronounced like "7e" as in my website.

Kindest Regards,

Kris Sevigny

Hi Andrea - I want to welcome you to Minnesota as I'm sure you will love it. There are quite a few cities that would meet your criteria with schools, and clinics & hospitals within a short driving distances. Fairbault may be quite a drive for your husband to get to Minneapolis (apx. 1 hour), so that may take away a lot of family time with him traveling.

I would love to have a conversation with you as to what your needs, desires and price range in a home are. and fit that to the types of communities that can offer you everything you are looking for.

Sometimes when people relocate, they hear or find about a city and think that may be their only option, yet don't have enough information to make an informed decision.

Hi Andrea,
Our proprietary home searching system, the HomeScouting report, is a security protected system. You create your own username and password. Once you've enrolled yourself - it provides you with detailed community and school information, including Lakeville and Faribault. You can enroll yourself at http://www.2guysfromTC.com Click on the 'Click here to search for Homes' button to enroll. My wife's a nurse with the Fairview Hospitals system. I can ask her about employment opportunities at Fairview.
I hope this helps - you can call me at 612-209-9288 or email me at mnhome@comcast.net

Hi Andrea.
Big differences between Lakeville and Faribault for sure (with Northfield in between). Faribault will get you a lot more for your money, a larger lot and land if you want, but Lakeville is known for its excellent schools and would have a much shorter commute time to downtown and give you many more options for hospital employment. Fariview Ridges would be a very close, major hospital, but Lakeville is where I35 splits giving you equal access to St Paul and Minneapolis. As with all these things, it comes down to compromise and what you value.
I certainly empathize with moving and relocating: I moved here from England 15 years ago and moved to Canada for a year too. Let me know if you need anything at all!

Lakeville has multiple opportunities for working in the medical field. There are numerous clinics, dentists, etc. in Lakeville. Also, Fairview Ridges Hospital is right next door to Lakeville in the city of Burnsville. The Lakeville school district is recognized as one of the best in Minnesota. Living in Lakeville provides easy access to Interstate 35.

I live and work in Lakeville with my two young kids and wife near a huge park off Ipava / 171st Street - we love it.

Awesome facts about Lakeville that helped us make our decision to move with kids:

+ CNN Money ranked Lakeville top 20 Best Places to live in America - safe, clean, great economy
+ All 14 of Lakeville's public schools beat the state averages - perfect for parents with small kids
+ Boating, and fishing at Marion and Orchard lakes - summer's are a blast here
+ Old Lakeville's downtown is small and quaint - stop by Babe's on Wed or Fri for live music or bingo
+ Less than 10 minutes either direction to down-town Apple Valley or Burnsville - tons of shopping
+ 5 min drive to skiing - with full half-pipe, snowboard park and world-class ski school that's produced Olympic racers

Hi Andrea,

I live and work in Lakeville and have been here for over 17 years. I love it for all of the things most people do. From the convenience to downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul to the incredible schools. Both of my sisters have taught school for 30 plus years and say Lakeville is among the best. Both of my kids are doing so well with all the district has to offer from special classes, athletics and honors classes. Faribault is nice as well but it is a very different kind of feel much more like a small town. Both communities are very safe and offer many choices in housing and job opportunities. I would recommend coming to town and taking a tour of both to see which one might be a better fit for you and your family. Feel free to contact me if you would like to talk and discuss your options. I have attached a link to my Lakeville homes for sale page.

As with any big move there are always questions, worries and concerns. Working with a realtor on the buy side of the transaction costs you nothing, but the advice, wisdom and direction you will receive is immeasurable, especially when moving to a new area. My office is in Apple Valley or what is known south of the river. I specialize in homes in all areas south of the river including Apple Valley, Lakeville, Northfield, Hastings, Eagan, Burnsville and more. I would love to help you find your home when you arrive. To prepare, check out my website at twincitieshomerewards.com. There you can set up your own search parameters and receive real live time info on homes for sale anywhere in the Twin Cities. You will find other info on the website as well including info on vendors who may be available to help you out in the future with home issues such as window repair guys, plumbers etc.

Hi Andrea! Lakeville and Faribault are both great areas (I am biased to Lakeville...i live here with my husband and 3 children)! My kids are in 5th, 3rd and kindergarten and are in the Lakeville school district. They first attended Cherry View elementary and we LOVED that school and we just moved to a new home within Lakeville and they now attend Lake Marion elementary and we love this school as well! If you would like to chat, give me a call or send me an email! I would love to help!
