We are currently building a house in Canyon Trails. Everything has been extremely smooth and GL has been wonderful. Yes, it is true what one of the comments said about the models not being what you get, but the normal buyer realizes this. We are spending about $35,000 for upgrades and that is about average. It is annoying some of the things they charge for. For example---our model has a huge loft upstairs. There is no cable outlet included in the loft---it is an extra. This outlet is $120. Why wouldn't that be included? Who doesn't put a TV in a loft???? Just little things like that are annoying. My husband said he wishes the house were about $5000 more, but had more included, so he didn't feel like they were nickel and diming us for everything.
For us, new construction was the answer. We are building brand new for the same price that we could have gotten an 8-10 year old home for in Canyon Lakes. We looked at resales but many were very overpriced for the age and condition of the house. A lot of the resales in the 400-450K range needed new kitchens, pools resurfaced, new AC units...etc, etc. It just made sense to get exactly what we wanted by building new.
Definitely do your research, but GL has been an excellent company to deal with so far.
