Try this link for Oakland Crime Spotting. Just remember that there are thing that you can do personally and for your property to lessen your chances of being a crime victim. The very best thing that you can do for yourself and the city is to get to know your neighbors. Join your block group or neighborhood watch. Or start one if there isn't one already. That's what I did in my section of Oakland and I made some good friends. Oakland does have crime, and it also has some great community spirit.

It is street by street. You can check out the crime statistics at the Police Dept web site - Google it

I lived in New Chinatown for some years, and found the diversity wonderful, and my block was quiet and we had nothing but the occasional car break in - the difficulty now would be on a street or block with lots of foreclosures and vacant houses. Drive by the street you are considering on a Friday evening or Saturday evening, you can get a hint of the street life - some street life is wonderful - kids, and families, etc. Other street life is less comforting. all the best
